[Tutorial] Adding Temporary Maemo.org repos to N900

As you all know that Maemo.org repositories are not working but there are already alternative repositories working without any problem. If you can't wait till maemo.org repositories are back online then this guide is for you. I don't know about these alternative repos but they are online and you can also install apps. A little working as usual:

I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR PHONE OR BRICK IT

If you agree to the above notice then guide will begin after the break.
First of all if you don't know why this problem is happening then this a short a quota from the original post on Maemo Forum:
''First things first, repo.maemo.org is down not because Council wants it that way but because there is some DNS issues causing akamai to leech the same content from the new infra; pending these issues being solved with Nokia's cooperation.''

There are 3 mirror repos available right now to be used.

1: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/
2: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/apt-mirror/
3: http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org

First mirror updated on: 11/11/12
Skeiron's Mirror (2nd one) updated on: 26/12/12
And Merlin1991's mirror is up to date: 07/01/13

Again thanks to thedead1440 from TMO for the pictures.

First you have to disable all repos which are not working yet. Follow these steps to do so.

Step 1: Open Application Manager (HAM) and click on top bar.

Step 2: After clicking on ''Application Catalogues'', scroll down to those Catalogues that have a red sign with exclamation mark (as shown in the picture).

Step 3: Now for every of those repos, open them and click on ''Disabled'' to disable them and select save to save it.

Now old repos which were not working are now disabled. Keep in mind that when repos are back online then also follow this same guide to enable them and delete or disable mirror repos.

Now that you have disable old repos, its time to add mirror repos or Catalogues so you can install apps.

Click on ''New'' button in ''Application Catalogues'' menu (as in step 2 written above) to add mirror repos. When you click on ''New'' a new box will open. (Shown in Picture)

I will write details for all repos then it's your choice which one you will choose.

For EXTRAS-TESTING Repo:
Note: thedead1440 marked this repo as ''Not Recommended'' i don't know. May be because there is only 1 mirror available for it and its also not updated to latest version of apps available. Any way i will write the guide using it or not using it depends on you.

1: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/

  • Code:
    Catalogue Name: Extras-Testing - Mirror 1
    Web address: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free non-free

  • There are also 2 more repositories that I don't know for what apps those are but from the name it seems that these are related to Community repos. Any way as thedead1440 has also added these 2 repos i will also add them to the tutorial. Add them also to the repo list may be these are also important ones.

Edit: These two repos are for CSSU (Community Seamless Software Update). Community Repo is for CSSU-Stable and Community-Testing Repo is for CSSU-Testing. Don't add them if you don't use CSSU and also they are not up to date except for the merlin1991's repo which gives some ''Hash Sum Mismatch'' error and this error is also reported for 1st mirror. Only 3rd mirror Skeirons is working fine but its not updated to latest CSSU version.

    For COMMUNITY Repo:

    1: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/

    Code:
Catalogue Name: Community - Mirror 1
    Web address: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/community/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free

    2: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/apt-mirror/

    Code:
Catalogue Name: Community - Mirror 2
    Web address: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/apt-mirror/community/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free non-free

    3: http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org

    Code:
Catalogue Name: Community - Mirror 3
    Web address: http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org/community/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free

    For COMMUNITY-TESTING Repo:

    1: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/

    Code:
    Catalogue Name: Community-Testing - Mirror 1
    Web address: http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/repository.maemo.org/community-testing/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free

    2: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/apt-mirror/

    Code:
    Catalogue Name: Community-Testing - Mirror 2
    Web address: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/apt-mirror/community-testing/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free non-free

    3: http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org

    Code:
    Catalogue Name: Community-Testing - Mirror 3
    Web address: http://skeiron.org/repo/repository.maemo.org/community-testing/
    Distribution: fremantle
    Components: free

That's it. These are mirrored Maemo.org repos with how to activate tutorial. After adding mirrored repos HAM will try to update. When update is done then you are free to install apps. Enjoy.

    1. The last 2 repos are for CSSU. Community Repo is for CSSU Stable and Community-Testing Repo is for CSSU Testing. If you don't use CSSU then don't add them.

    2. What is the difference between cssu stable and testing.Which is better in terms of features and performance

    3. @warrior: CSSU stable is for those users who want a stable Maemo with heavily tested apps from CSSU-Testing and CSSU-Devel. Feature wise CSSU-Testing is much better as CSSU-Stable lacks some apps like camera-ui2 (a open source camera app replacement) and other apps i don't remember. Keep in mind apps first enter CSSU-Devel (for skilled people's to check them) and then CSSU-Testing. CSSU-Testing apps are always newer than CSSU-Stable.

For performance CSSU-Thumb is just amazing. Not even a single lag. if you want to see it your self check my N900 facebook page for a quick CSSU-Thumb multi-tasking video demo. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
